Profile
Paw Works is a Southern California nonprofit animal rescue dedicated to partnering with county and city shelters to give abandoned animals a second chance at life. In just ten short years, we have saved over 15,000 abandoned dogs and cats and placed them in caring homes.

Established on January 17, 2014, Paw Works was founded with the clear mission: to help make Ventura County “No Kill”. Ventura County was able to achieve “No Kill” status less than a month after we were formed, through the sheer determination and support provided directly from our organization. Expanding our reach, we continue to take in abandoned animals today throughout Southern California and the nation at large. Noting, over the course of the pandemic we have experienced a 400% increase in our adoption rates. Allowing us to rescue over 5,200 animals throughout 2020 and 2021 from high kill/rural shelters as well as unsafe areas… and we are still rescuing every single week!
With 98% of every donated dollar going back directly to the rescue, care, education and adoption to our animals saved, we have been able to achieve significant growth in just eight years. Now, we are revolutionizing the rescue community further with the expansion of our new Veterinary Hospital. Opened March 2021, it serves as the first rescue-run veterinary in Ventura County, with the focus of rescue and affordable care for the community.
As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, we rely exclusively on our community for the support we need to continue our life saving mission. A few ways you can help:
Donate – With transports of 40-60 animals weekly, we depend exclusively on private donations and fundraising to fulfill our financial needs.
Volunteer – Once every animal gets safely to our board and care facility, they are processed, bathed, receive any medical attention necessary, microchipped, treated for parasites and placed in warm, dry kennels to decompress and be fed a high-quality food.
Foster – Foster families from all over the county take in many of the animals rescued who are pregnant or nursing mothers, litters of orphans needing round the clock bottle feeding, senior animals or animals in hospice care.
Share & Advocate – To aid our small staff in rescuing, caring and adopting our animals, we rely on the community to share our message of education, awareness and community driven programs that offer spay/neuter, pet retention and affordable veterinary care
